Pääsiäisretriitti “Gateways to Liberation” 1.4.-5.4.

The retreat will be led by Vaddhaka in English (tukena Nagashila)

The Buddha described the nature of reality in several different ways, including the three lakshanas or characteristics of conditioned existence; (i) impermanence or anitya, (ii) unsatisfactoriness or duhkha, and (iii) no fixed self or anatman. And the Buddha also taught that deep contemplation of each of these three characteristics is a gateway to liberation.

So, contemplation of impermanence leads to the signless gateway (animitta), contemplation of unsatisfactoriness leads to the wishless gateway (apranihita), contemplation of no fixed self leads to emptiness (sunyata).

Each of these gateways is in turn associated in the Tibetan tradition with a particular state of mind; the signless gateway with clarity of mind, the wishless with sensitivity, and emptiness with openness.

On this retreat we will explore each of the three characteristics of conditioned existence and their associated gateways and states of mind  through led dharma discussion and through meditation.
